It has been so hot this summer, in fact, one of the hottest on record, and It doesn’t seem like there isn’t any relief in the forecast. This heat makes it feel as if summer will never end.
For centuries, people have looked to the sky for signs of what lies ahead. The Dog Days are a time when Sirius is brightest in the night’s sky, and we can see better into space than ever before. It must be an auspicious event because it coincides with celestial alignment and our hottest summer days!
While there is not much you can do about the weather, there is another annual event that coincides with this time of year: The Great Minnesota Get-Together. This summer tradition has been celebrated since 1859 and is one of the largest in the nation, attracting more than 2 million visitors annually.
The Minnesota State Fair strives to show off the finest agriculture, art, and industry in our state and provide an unparalleled forum for knowledge and ideas.
While the fair is still a week away, starting on August 26th and running through Labor Day, it only lasts a short time; Market in the Valley will be open through the first week in October.
Attending The Great Minnesota Get-together is a wonderful annual tradition and destination to celebrate agriculture as a whole. But the Market in the Valley continues to be the best way to support local agriculture and crafts weekly. While we’re still in the dog days summer, we also are in peak harvest, and some of the best produce of the season is ready to be enjoyed.
Look forward to seeing you this weekend!
